Warming and the Water Cycle (00:05:21)
[05-Mar-13] The water cycle play an important role in distributing heat and energy around the earth. Dr. Raymond Schmitt form the SPURS (Salinity Processes in the Upper Ocean Regional Study) mission shows an illustrated diagram of the water cycle. Dr. Schmitt expands on this "traditional" view of the water cycle - emphasizing the dominance of the ocean in this cycle that is not often discussed. Global water reservoirs and fluxes are discussed, showing the relative sizes and flow between reservoirs - the largest of which is the evaporation from the ocean. The relative contributions of the atmosphere, ocean and rivers are compared in size. Credit: Raymond Schmitt.
